Essential streaming tips shared by our IT Director Scott Boucher for hassle free set-up of Online Classroom at HOME‼️ (April 1. 2020)
Here are a few items to be aware of when you have students at home trying to do virtual learning. We understand that not everyone has the same type and speed of internet at home which can be frustrating for everyone. Some of you may be having issues connecting to Zoom teacher sessions or using online websites such as i-ready, IXL or any learning site in general. Here are a few tips to think about when you or your children are using online learning tools.
1. Be sure you or other family members are not using streaming services such as Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, Sling etc... during these times. Keeping other users off these services for the short period of time will help students have less disruption in internet.
2. Be sure you dont have other devices downloading during this time. Playstation, Xbox consoles, downloading games and updates. These are common internet hogs and even if you think they are off they have a sleep mode that allows the device to appear off but is still downloading the games and updates in the background. Please completely stop the download or physically unplug the device.
3. Be sure your student is sitting near your wifi router. Sometimes this needs to be within 20ft of the wifi router.
4. While in a Zoom meeting, disable the video if needed. This is a feature you can turn on and off within zoom. This will allow your student to still hear and speak to their teacher well.
